2021 was the first time we used the club site for a winter meet in many years. It proved to be a great way of getting the full site facilities for meet prices and this was demonstrated by the number of campers who joined us.
The site itself is positioned in quiet surroundings with a bus route outside that could take you to places such as Malvern or Worcester. It has a local shop and a pub not too far away so you can get supplies or a meal without too much bother. However, the difference being on a meet is that we had some entertainment in the hall on site.
This time the stewards John and Anne did a quiz that had us all in stitches with the answers.
Christmas Meal 2021
The highlight of the meet was no doubt the Christmas meal organised by Edith, a lovely meal at the Bluebell Inn that was a couple of miles away, so she even laid on a coach to take us in style (and bring us back). So, to summarise a great site with social camping and a fantastic meal what’s not to love!
The rain didn’t stop a brave band of units enjoying a very pleasant weekend at Cranberry Moss. Yes, a little gem: excellent facilities and and a very convenient location. Bus to Oswestry or Shrewsbury right on the door step. With Halloween thrown in and the sun coming out during the day who cares if it rains at night!
A few ‘in your own van’ quizzes racked our brains and some well dressed Halloween Vans made the weekend; topped off with shopping in the nearby towns. Thank you to Edith for Stewarding assisted by Andrea and Rob. Thank you also to everyone for attending so nice to see some new members coming along too.
Our THS at Stow on the Wold proved very popular. We had a nice mix of motorhomes and Caravans all keen to enjoy the local countryside surrounding Stow on the Wold. Some came for a few days some for a week or more. The local markets and pretty Cotswold villages proved to be a great attraction particularly on market days.
The village bus operating during the week was very useful and well supported.
The ramblers soon had their boots on and found a nearby 11th century church.
We plan to return in 2021 – more information in due course.
Parking for motorhomes at nearby Bourton on the Water with its Motor Museum and interesting riverside shops is particularly good being close to the village.
Following our event at Shardlow Marina it was fantastic to find the sun following us to Peak Rail in the peak district. Following us too was a very good number of units and we all enjoyed a very pleasant, if not hot weekend in the sun watching the trains and discovering the local area.
The trains were running a limited daytime service to Matlock and back but with a bus stop right outside the site.
and nice walks along the riverside and to the shopping outlet a very pleasant weekend was enjoyed by all.
With Covid-19 restrictions easing a little we were able to have a ‘pop-up’ campsite at the equestrian centre near Droitwich. The site is a short walk to Droitwich with good transport links to Bromsgrove and Worcester. Pleasant walks and cycling abound and a few pubs served food in their gardens.
It was good for members to meet up again albeit well socially distanced and with no social events. The event was fully attended and despite the cold weather enjoyed by all.
It was a lovely sunny weekend at Moira Furnace with lots of members taking advantage of the warm weather, members taking the opportunity get out the barbie and have a socially distanced conversation with fellow cooks.
There was plenty to do with canal boat trips, a museum in the furness showing how and why it was built but not particularly successful when put to use.
Great walks and cycling and little shops and a Cafe. Having contacted Shylie and Jim, old members, we met up in the outside cafe area and caught up with their news. It was lovely sitting chatting in the sun with a coffee to keep the throat from getting dry. They might be joining us again as they have bought another caravan and Shylie has had her knee operation.
I am glad to say that we enjoyed joining in with East Midlands area who have also booked it again for next year. (16th to 18th April 2021)
